Philanthropy Roundtable’s Free to Give campaign elevates the voices of everyday Americans who have dedicated their careers to supporting those in need. Their work is made possible by the freedom of all Americans to give to the causes and communities they care about.
In a new “Free to Give” video, DonorsTrust President and CEO Lawson Bader discusses how donor-advised funds (DAFs) empower Americans to respond to the needs of individuals and communities around the country quickly and effectively, while safeguarding donor intent and personal privacy. Bader says DAFs are the fastest-growing charitable giving tool in America, and more everyday Americans are using charitable dollars set aside in a DAF for unexpected needs in their local areas.
“Being philanthropic is being strategic so that your giving aligns with your values,” says Bader. “A DAF provides that simple means of setting some money aside and then not thinking about it until the time comes to think about it, so it provides that strategic value.” He expanded on this by sharing that during COVID when many donors didn’t have the active cashflow to support organizations, donor-advised funds were able to fill the gap during a time of unprecedented disruption.
Sometimes referred to as a “community foundation” for liberty-loving donors, DonorsTrust has granted approximately $2 billion to more than 3,000 charities that protect our constitutional liberties and strengthen civil society without government funding. Established in 1999 as a 501(c)(3) public charity, DonorsTrust safeguards the intent of donors dedicated to the ideals of limited government, personal responsibility and free enterprise.
