WASHINGTON – Philanthropy Roundtable announced today that Abby Moffat, president and CEO of the Diana Davis Spencer Foundation, has been elected to the Roundtable’s board of directors.
“Abby and her mother, Diana Davis Spencer, embody our mission and values,” said Philanthropy Roundtable President and CEO Christie Herrera. “Through dedication to giving that nurtures and strengthens America’s legacy of individual rights and freedom Abby has established herself as an instrumental leader in our nation’s philanthropic community, championing the entrepreneurship and innovation that has made the American people’s historically unmatched dedication to philanthropy possible. Her energy, insight and experience will enhance Philanthropy Roundtable’s growth and inspire the next generation of philanthropic leaders to continue their families’ legacies of generosity.”
Moffat is among the country’s most highly regarded philanthropic leaders. In December 2023, Inside Philanthropy magazine placed her on its list of “50 Most Powerful Women in U.S. philanthropy,” one of just 15 “Organization Leaders” on the list.
“At our foundation, we truly believe we only grow if we live outside of our comfort zone. As a result, we bring an entrepreneurial mindset to everything we do,” Moffat said. “I’m looking forward to working with dedicated, like-minded leaders at the Roundtable to continue to support innovative solutions to society’s most urgent problems through the cultivation of philanthropic excellence.”
The Diana Davis Spencer Foundation continues a multi-generational tradition of charitable giving originally established by Shelby Cullom Davis, the longest serving American ambassador to Switzerland, and his wife Kathryn Wasserman Davis, an author, community leader and renowned lecturer in Russian affairs.
As its president and CEO, Moffat guides the organization’s grantmaking in five key areas: America’s founding values, education, entrepreneurship, public policy and national security. Moffat formerly served in leadership roles at executive search firm CWI/SAI and on the boards of The Heritage Foundation, One Generation Away and the Daniel Morgan Graduate School of National Security. She is a graduate of Mt. Vernon College and holds honorary doctorates from Wheaton College and Hillsdale College.
