Earlier this year, The Philanthropy Roundtable published a guidebook focused entirely on protecting donor intent, a key aspect of philanthropic excellence. Protecting Your Legacy: A Wise Giver’s Guide to Honoring and Preserving Donor Intent was co-authored by Joanne Florino and David Bass.
The American Council for Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) recently reviewed the book and had this to say: “For any donor considering a major gift, particularly a major gift to higher education, this compelling and informative guide is a must-read.” There is a full chapter devoted to how to protect one’s donor intent when making a major gift to a college or university.
We’ll be covering much more on this topic on November 19. Join Joanne Florino as she speaks with Jeffrey Moritz, the son of a very generous donor to Ohio State University, along with his family’s attorney David Marburger and Emily Koons Jae from ACTA. They will discuss an unfortunate case of donor intent being blatantly ignored by a university and how higher-education donors can protect their intent and identify potential violations. P.S. Our heartiest congratulations to Joanne Florino on being appointed the first holder of the Adam Meyerson Distinguished Fellowship in Philanthropic Excellence!
